About Pentangle
Art belongs in the life of a town.
Pentangle Arts is a nonprofit arts organization serving Woodstock, Vermont and the surrounding community through film, live performance, arts education, and community programs. Much of that work happens inside the historic Woodstock Town Hall Theatre — but Pentangle is more than a building. It is the people, programs, artists, audiences, and neighbors who keep the arts present in community life.

Our story
Part of Woodstock since 1974.
Pentangle began in 1974 with a belief that a small town could sustain an ambitious cultural life. Over the decades, the organization has brought film, performance, education, and community programming to Woodstock while helping keep the historic Town Hall Theatre alive as a place for the arts and community gathering.
Pentangle’s story and the theatre’s story are closely connected, but they are not the same story. The Town Hall opened generations before Pentangle existed; since 1974, Pentangle has helped ensure that its theatre remains a place where audiences, artists, and neighbors can gather.
After more than five decades, Pentangle is in a period of renewal and growth — strengthening its programming, widening the ways people can take part, and building the capacity to keep this work going.
