The WoodstockTown Hall Theatre

One room on the Green has gathered generations of Woodstock for film, live performance, and community life since 1900. Pentangle Arts, founded in 1974, stewards and operates the theatre inside the Town's civic building today.

A room with a history

Opened in 1900

When Town Hall opened in 1900, its Opera House was upstairs. Movies soon became part of the building's cultural life, with piano accompanying films during the silent era. A major fire in 1927 changed the building, and the theatre moved downstairs during reconstruction.

Pentangle Arts was founded independently in Woodstock in 1974. By the 1980s, Pentangle, Town leaders, supporters, and the wider community worked toward restoring the theatre. Pentangle continues to steward and operate the room today.
